Organic Ashwaganda (Withania somnifera): Ashwaganda has been used historically for thousands of years for a great many beneficial actions. Modern research has confirmed that Ashwaganda has relaxing properties and can help people physically and psychologically deal with stress [1]. Ashwaganda seems to work by modulating GABA, the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the body [2]. Research has shown supplementation with Ashwganda improves sleep [3]. Withania has also been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory properties with inhibition against NF-kB[4] and TNF-a [5] [6] [7].

Organic Hops (Humulus lupulus): Hops are a common flavoring agent used to impart the bitter flavor of modern beers. It is also an incredibly useful medicinal plant which helps reduce stress and anxiety and can help promote more restful sleep [8] [9].

Melatonin: a hormone produced in the pineal gland of the brain that signals the body when its time to go to sleep. Can be used safely to help with restlessness and insomnia. Melatonin supplementation has been shown to be useful for sleep disturbances and insomnia [12] [13]. Melatonin has been shown in studies to decrease delirium in older adults. Melatonin is safe for short term and long-term use [14] [15].

Scientists believe that passionflower works by increasing levels of a chemical called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain [21]. GABA reduces the activity of some brain cells, inducing a greater state of relaxation [22] [23].

Phenibut: Similar to the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA. Has a very sedative effect on the brain to help with anxiety and insomnia. It is widely used in Russia to help with a wide array of anxiety disorders but also with phobias and even depression. Phenibut has effects on the dopaminergic pathways and has some cognitive enhancing effects [24].

L-Theanine: L-Theanine as L-TeaActive(TM) is an amino acid found in green tea and has been shown to have a direct influence on brain activity, such as reducing stress [25]. It has also been shown to have positive effects on anxiety in patients with schizophrenia [26].

L-Tryptophan: Tryptophan is an important amino acid that is converted to 5-HTP (5-hyrdoxytryptophan) and then to Serotonin in the body.  Serotonin transmits signals between nerve cells and improves mood. Low serotonin levels are implicated in depression [27]. Tryptophan levels have been shown to be lower in those suffering from insomnia [28]. Tryptophan intake has been associated with lower levels of depression and improved sleep [29].
