Parents In Tacoma, Washington Had Been Injecting Their Children With Heroin In Their Deplorable House

The heroin and opiate epidemic in the United States continues to become more distressing and unnerving with each passing day. For a majority of parents nationwide, it would be a nightmare if any of their children ended up getting addicted to an opioid like heroin. However, police recently arrested a couple outside Tacoma, Washington for injecting their three children with heroin. The couple’s house was trashed with rat feces and needles that the parents had been using to inject their children with heroin, calling the drug “feel good medicine.”

The 25-year-old father Mac Leroy McIver and the 24-year-old mother Ashlee Hutt have been charged with assault of a child in the second degree, criminal mistreatment in the second degree and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance to a person under 18. Back in September a probable cause affidavit was also filed in Pierce County Superior Court.

According to booking records, both parents are currently being held on $100,000 bail each. The father had already appeared for his arraignment back in September while the mother was recently arraigned. The conditions in which they children were being kept in that house were appalling and heinous. Even if heroin was not involved in this case, the living situation was still not fit and suitable for young children, especially those of ages 2, 4 and 6. The three kids are currently in protective custody and although it is uncertain whether their parents have attorneys, it seems that they both have made a not-guilty plea.

Court documents reveal that the children had been removed from the house by social workers last November. The living conditions in the house have been described as filthy, neglectful and shabby. Next to the bed in the bedroom, there was a dress with cooker heroin and rolls of aluminum foil on top of it. Other than the parents, there were apparently others living in the house, all of whom were reportedly heroin users.

The 2-year-old child had marks and scarring all over his body from having been injected with heroin by his own parents. According to social workers, the 6-year-old boy revealed that along with giving the children the “feel good medicine,” their father would also choke them. Based on the child’s description of the “feel good medicine” as a white powder that his parents mixed with water that was injected into them using a needle, it is obvious that the drug is heroin. Apparently, the parents injected the children with the drug to make them fall asleep.

Hair follicle tests had also been conducted on the children. The 2-year-old had heroin in his system and tested positive, while 4 year-old girl did not have enough heroin in her system for a positive result and the 6 year-old apparently had very little so the rest was a negative. While the parents have confessed to using heroin, they claim that it was the babysitter who injected their children with heroin.

Regardless, it does not change the fact that the opioid epidemic devastating the nation has had a negative impact on the lives of these children. In recent times, there have even been several incidents of adults overdosing on drugs like opioids and dying as a result while in the presence of young children. However, this case of parents injecting their own children with heroin is particularly atrocious.
