When it comes to tragic overdose deaths, celebrities are not immune. It's easy to say that ”If I had their money I would do this or that,” but the truth is these people are no different than you or I. They are still human beings with feelings, emotions, and the same abilities to become addicts. Take your everyday problems and think about having them portrayed in the media. The stress of being constantly followed and hounded by the paparazzi as well as fans asking for autographs and pictures can become overwhelming. Though their life may seem like it's perfect, most celebrities are still stressed out like the majority of the population.
With deep pockets, stressful lives, and surrounded by their personal staff and entourage that will do whatever it takes to make them happy (yes men) it shows how tempting and easy celebs can fall into addiction. Celebrities may use drugs in the clubs or to help them unwind recreationally, but as we all know, that can easily snow ball out of control into a full out addiction.
When you have the money and contacts that celebrities have, it is very easy to doctor shop. (Going to multiple doctors with the intent to obtain multiple prescriptions of painkillers in one month.) Some doctors may even give celebrities prescriptions they request strictly because they are famous and like the attention of treating a celebrity. The late Corey Haim obtained 553 opiates pills in the two months prior to his death by doctor shopping.
Below is a brief list of Celebrities who tragically overdosed on opiates. Keep in mind that many celebrity overdoses are not released to the public and sometimes reports to the public are misleading to protect the individual and their family.
